Local Radon Help Since Day One
About Keystone Radon Mitigation
It Started in a York Basement
Keystone Radon Mitigation started with a basement in Spring Garden Township. Our founder, Mark Stambaugh, grew up in York and bought his first house off Country Club Road. The home inspection came back at 14 pCi/L, more than three times the EPA action level. He had never heard of radon.
He spent the next month learning what radon is, why York County has so much of it and why his neighbor's low result meant nothing for his own house. The fix took one day. The re-test came back under 2 pCi/L.
That month set the course for Keystone. Mark saw York families get a scary number during a home sale, then get rushed into a system with no clear price and no proof it worked. He started Keystone to do the opposite.
How We Work
Test First
We don't sell a system until we know your number. If you already have a result, we start there. If not, we test.
Honest Numbers
You get a written price before any work starts. You get your before and after radon results in writing too.
Re-Test Every Job
The EPA says to re-test after a system goes in. We do it on every install, and we adjust the system if it misses the target.
Local People
We live in York County. We answer our own phones, and we'll still be here when your fan needs a check in ten years.
Why Radon Matters in York County
York County sits in EPA Radon Zone 1. The limestone, dolomite and slate under our towns let radon seep into basements and crawl spaces all year. PA DEP records put the average York basement near 10 pCi/L. The Surgeon General calls radon the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, after smoking. We think every home here should be tested, and every high result should be fixed.
How to Check Any Radon Contractor in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania's Radon Certification Act says anyone who tests for or fixes radon for the public must be certified by the PA Department of Environmental Protection. Before you hire anyone, including us:
- Ask for proof of PA DEP certification. You have the right to see it.
- Check the certification with the PA DEP Radon Hotline at 800-237-2366.
- Get the price in writing, and ask if a re-test is included.
- Ask what happens if the re-test comes back high.
Every Keystone job is done by a PA DEP-certified radon pro.
